My Technical Background

1998

I was building my first HTML pages the summer before college.

1999

My first real programming language was Pascal. I enrolled in CIS201 at The Ohio State University, way back in Janurary 1999. The material was kept fairly simple. Plenty of conditional statements, and a few procedures. My HTML skills were still weak, as I was just learning about tables and other elements that could be used to enhance a webpage. After a few more CIS classes, I had a good understanding of HTML....CSS was still an unknown, though.

2000-2002

I had been working at the OSUPD since fall of 1998 as a data-entry drone. I was in the office next to the system administrators of the department. They were all students, and I got to know them pretty well. I eventually was offered a student job as a sysadmin. This is definitely where I started to excel. One of the guys working there, Derrick Cobb, had the same CIS classes as me. He did teach me alot about administering a Windows network. As he always puts it, "Man, before you knew me, you didn't even know what SHOUTcast was." I started getting into PHP and MySQL, and we ended up building an Intranet for the department. It had a simple interface for keeping daily logs and crime alerts. It was my first major project. The two-plus years that I spent as a sysadmin were probably more valuable in getting workplace experience than my classes.

2003-Present

During the past three point five years, I have been employed by Reflex Design & Technology. I was the fourth person hired, and today we stand at five people, with the intent of hiring more. We are mostly a interactive firm, and most of our time is spent on websites and web applications. Most of our development is on the Windows platform (IIS/MSSQL/.NET), but it depends soley on the client. Some of our sites are based in Linux and use Apache/PHP/MySQL/PostgreSQL. I have had plenty of experience with classic ASP, but my area of expertise is now .NET/C#. You can find out more by navigating the right-side column.
